So much to do, so little time

Time is getting short and I am trying to get things together for my big project. I’m supposed to fly out on the 14th of the month for back east but it is the waiting that takes the toll. Have you ever had to wait for something that you were excited for and a little bit afraid of at the same time? That is me, counting down the weeks and the days until I leave. I have boxes to pack, but I can’t fill them; yet. I have supplies to organize but I am still using them right now, thus they can’t be put away. It is 80 degrees today but I need to pack for October, November and December in New York State. Trying to plan for cold weather in a place I’ve never been before is complicated. I need to pack for layering, but I don’t want to take anything I might lose.

8 weeks away from home; from my plants, my pets, my husband and my friends…. How do you plan for that? Do I send my plants away? I have faith in my husband to take care of himself and the animals but, what is he going to do to the house while I am gone? When we first were married, I had a small house in North Idaho. 2 bedrooms, 1 bath; just under 1,000sqft. Every time I left town to travel to shows with my mother, my husband would talk about knocking out a wall. The problem was, the roof was being held up by the center wall of the building and that was the one my husband wanted to cut into! Now, we have a list of things we want to do with our current home. After 31 years of marriage I know that 1 on of 4 things will happen in my absence: 1, nothing. 2, something will get started and be a complete wreck when I get home. 3, It will be done and different than what we had planned. or 4, it will be done perfectly.

Now, nothing is permanent and I know that everything can be changed if need be. I would hate to do that to him. I do know that I owe him for the time I tore down a kitchen wall without consulting him (second home, not the first), and he does have help if he needs to phone a friend or two. We have talked about what we want to do so maybe with the stress of everything, I am just worried about nothing. I hope he doesn’t forget to water the plants while I am gone and he is tearing out walls and knocking down chimneys.

I will keep you posted about my time away and if he sends me pictures, I will keep you updated about those things as well. Here is to the count down!
